Theme of World Space Week 2022
The theme of World Space Week 2022 is "Space and Sustainability," with a focus on achieving sustainability in space as well as achieving sustainability from space. The theme is inspired by the relationship between sustainability in space and how humanity uses space, most notably the orbital area surrounding Earth.
Remote Earth observation and space exploration can help to drive change for our home planet. This includes measuring climate change, identifying pollution on land and at sea, and assisting developing nations with agriculture.

The Origins of World Space Week:
The United Nations General Assembly declared October 4-10, 1999, to be World Space Week. These dates were not chosen at random. Sputnik 1, the first human-made Earth satellite, was launched on October 4, 1957. The launch of Sputnik 1 into orbit in 1957 paved the way for future space exploration. On October 10, 1967, a decade later, the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies, was signed.
This event was first observed in the year 2000. It was themed, "Launching the Space Millennium." This event set a new record in 2021. The week featured over 6,418 events in 96 countries.
