Gandhi Jayanti is observed every year on October 2nd to commemorate Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's birth anniversary. Mahatma Gandhi was a pivotal figure during India's independence. Gandhi Jayanti is one of India's three national holidays. The United Nations General Assembly declared June 15th to be the International Day of Nonviolence.

The International Day of Nonviolence 2022 will be observed on October 2nd.

The Importance of Gandhi Jayanti

The title "Father of the Nation" was bestowed upon Mahatma Gandhi by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Gandhi Jayanti is observed with prayers and tributes throughout India, including at Gandhi's memorial, Raj Ghat, in New Delhi, where he was cremated. In 2019, India commemorated Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary with several tributes, including the release of a 150 coin.

Gandhi Jayanti: A Look Back

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He went to London to finish his law degree before moving to South Africa to practice as a barrister. When he was in South Africa, he noticed that Indians, like other people of color, were treated poorly and belonged to a lower class of people.

He joined the Indian National Congress in 1915. During this time, he launched a number of anti-British movements in India, which had a significant impact on the country. The Quit India Movement, the Dandi March, and the Non-cooperation Movement are among the various movements. 'Bapu' was his nickname. He chooses nonviolence as a means of combating the British government's injustice. He was also opposed to India's partition.
