Nitin Gadkari unveils Toyota's Flex-Fuel Strong Hybrid EV pilot project.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, unveiled the Toyota Corolla Altis Flex-fuel vehicle.

Strong Flex-Fuel Hybrid EV---- Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, unveiled the Toyota Corolla Altis Flex-fuel car, which has been billed as India's first pilot project on Flexi-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV). The goal of this project is to determine whether ethanol-powered flex-fuel vehicles are viable in Indian conditions.

This project includes the following components----The collected data will be shared with the prestigious Indian Institute of Science in order to conduct a more in-depth study on the well-to-wheel carbon emissions of FFV / FFV-SHEV in the Indian context.

A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed in this regard between Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Flex-fuel production has already begun in India, with three grades initially developed: E95, E90, and E85. The nomenclature of the aforementioned fuel grades is based on the proportion of petrol to ethanol mix.

Toyota Brazil supplied the flex-fuel sedan. It is powered by a 1.8L ethanol petrol hybrid engine that runs on fuel with an ethanol content ranging from 20 to 100 percent, producing nearly 101 bhp and 142 Nm of torque. The petrol engine produces 72 bhp and 163 Nm when combined with a 1.3 kWh battery. This powertrain setup is mated to a CVT transmission.

Additional considerations----- Previously, Gadkari had inaugurated another Toyota pilot project when the company introduced the hydrogen-powered Mirai sedan in India. The Indian government is clearly pushing for alternative fuel for vehicles in order to reduce reliance on oil imports. Furthermore, because of their environmentally friendly nature, these vehicles aid in the reduction of pollution.
