Aryadan Muhammad, a senior Congress leader and former minister from Kerala, died at the age of 87. Muhammad, a well-known Muslim face of the Keralan Congress, was elected eight times to the state Assembly from the Nilambur constituency in Malappuram. He had four terms under his belt as a minister. He served as the ministry of Oommen Chandy's power minister from 2011 to 2016 during the Congress administration.
Aryadan Muhammad's career:
In 1952, Muhammad joined the Congress, and in 1958, he was elected to the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. He had been a state leader of the INTUC, the trade union branch of Congress, and later served as the president of the Malappuram district congress committee.

Muhammad was a well-known figure in the Congress who was connected to the A group, which was commanded by A K Antony. Muhammad was appointed to the CPI(M) government at the time, which was headed by E K Nayanar, after a faction of the Congress joined forces with the party in 1980.
In 1995, after K. Karunakaran's resignation, Antony was appointed chief minister, and he once more became a minister in the Congress ministry. When Oommen Chandy was became chief minister in 2004, Muhammad was appointed minister of power. Muhammad had been one of the suspected suspects in the shocking 1969 murder of Communist leader and former lawmaker K Kunhali.
