Inter-state water disputes benefit no one, according to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stated that a country's economic strength is unrelated to the consumption of natural resources such as water, gasoline, and natural gas.

On November 5, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stated that the time has come to take proactive steps to resolve all inter-state water disputes because they benefit no one and are detrimental to the country and people at large.

He also reminded people that natural resources like water and fuel should not be squandered because the country cannot afford it.

Mr. Dhankhar stressed the importance of rejuvenating water bodies during the valedictory function of the 7th India Water Week in Greater Noida.

"In the true spirit of federalism, the time has come for us to take proactive initiatives to resolve inter-state water disputes," he said, emphasising that these disputes are "in favour of none" and are detrimental to the country and people as a whole.

Water disputes between states in the country are resolved under the provisions of the Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956, under which the Centre appoints a tribunal to hear all sides before making a decision.

He claimed that a country's economic strength is unrelated to its consumption of natural resources such as water, gasoline, and natural gas.

"We cannot exploit these resources on the basis that we can afford it," he said, reminding the audience of the Directive Principles of State Policy, which state that natural resources should be distributed fairly.

He stated that we cannot be "reckless" in our resource exploitation.

Water body rejuvenation, according to Mr. Dhankhar, will be "very impactful."

On April 24, this year, the prime minister launched 'Mission Amrit Sarovar,' with the goal of conserving water for the future. As part of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, the Mission aims to develop and revitalise 75 water bodies in each district of the country.
